The Helen Strzelecki Conservation
Scholarship Fund
(The Conservation Scholarship Fund was established through the efforts of long-time Prairie
Club member Helen Strzelecki, who was the Conservation Chair for over nine years. She started
the fund by holding rummage sales and using the profits to support conservation activities. Helen
passed away in December 1994. As a special memorial to Helen and her efforts for conservation in
the Club, the Conservation Committee has renamed the fund--The Helen Strzelecki Conservation
Scholarship Fund.)
The Conservation Committee is offering Prairie Club members several full or partial
scholarships of up to $350 for an educational experience in the field of conservation and
understanding of the need to preserve our delicate ecosystem. Educational experiences
include attending conferences, workshops, or classes; traveling; or leading field trips. If the
recipient takes children on a local educational or ecological field trip, scholarship funds will
group leaders, rangers, park district workers, Boy and Girl Scout leaders, or any other person
engaged in the business of training or teaching young people. We are particularly interested
in having the recipient share their experience with the young people they serve and with the
Prairie Club membership.

In order to qualify for the scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following qualifications:

1. Be a member of the Prairie Club
2. Be currently involved in the field of conservation and environmental studies
3. Be willing to share their experiences with members of the Prairie Club
4. Submit an explanation of what they intend to do, what they expect to gain from this
experience, and how the experience will advance the cause of conservation
5. Publish a report for the Bulletin within six months of receiving the scholarship.
Members who qualify and wish to apply for the scholarship should contact the Club office to
receive an application by mail. Interested persons may apply four times during the year--in
March, June, September, and December.  If you have any questions, please contact the Club
office for more information.
