The Prairie Club welcomes to its membership all those who are interested in our ideals, goals, and activities.
Active Membership
Active Membership is an individual membership in the Club.
An Active Member may use Club facilities and participate in Club activities, receive copies of “The Bulletin”, lease Club property, vote in Club elections, hold office or committee Chairmanship, and sponsor new members for membership. The minimum age for individual membership is 16 years of age.
How to Apply for Membership
The applicant must know two Active or Honorary Life Members for at least one year. Sponsors, who must be active members of the Club in good standing for at least 2 years, should assist the applicant and, if possible, introduce the applicant to one member of the Membership Committee for an interview.
No relative (Parent, Child, Sibling, Spouse, Partner, Significant Other, Uncle, Aunt, Niece, Nephew) of the applicant may act as a sponsor or Membership Committee interviewer.
Not more than one person in a family may sponsor the same applicant.
Each sponsor is to fill out the appropriate sections of the forms.
Return the completed application and sponsor forms to the Club office by mail or email.
Two separate checks (one for the entrance fee and one for first year’s dues) must be mailed to the office. The Entrance Fee is $50.00 per person. Dues for Active Members are $130.00 per person. Please make your checks payable to The Prairie Club. The check for dues will be held until Board approval.
Membership in the Prairie Club is an individual membership, not family-based. Accordingly, under the Spring Grove Camp and Hazelhurst Camp rules regarding siteholders and guests:
- Immediate adult family members of a siteholder must apply for their own membership if they wish to use Club facilities in the absence of the siteholder.
- Likewise, any adult family member of a Prairie Club member must obtain an individual membership if they intend to use Spring Grove or Hazelhurst Camp facilities without being accompanied by the member.
- Student memberships are available for those family members 16-21!
Membership Process and Approval Notification
- Upon receiving your complete application (both sponsor forms, application, application fee and dues check) the Senior Office Manager of the Prairie Club will review the application and sponsor forms for eligibility. If there are objections to the application or the sponsorship forms, the form is returned to Candidate/Sponsor for discussion and reassessment.
- Once your complete application has been verified for eligibility, your sponsor forms and application will be sent to the Membership Chair, and a Membership Committee member will contact you for an interview. Sponsors may also be contacted by a member of the committee.
- The timeline for processing prospective members can vary significantly due to numerous factors including (but not limited to) proper completion of all parts of the application, availability of membership committee for interviews, mandatory “posting period” and availability of board members to review applications.
- Upon completion of your interview and membership committee recommendation for membership, your name and sponsors’ names will be published in a forthcoming Club “Bulletin” as a prospective member. Your name must be published for at least two weeks before Board approval to allow any members at large to voice an objection. If there are objections, there is board discussion and decision is made by the board based on objection information.
- Your name will then be submitted to the Prairie Club Board for vote and final approval.
- Upon Board approval, you will receive notification from the Club office. Once you have received notification of Board approval and your dues check has been cashed, you are considered an active member and may enjoy all benefits of active membership. ***During the application process an applicant can only attend a Prairie Club sponsored event in the company of an active member. An applicant does not have any benefits of membership.***
- Should an applicant not be accepted, the dues check will be returned.
“We are confident that in keeping with The Prairie Club Spirit, no member seeks to avoid the payment of membership dues, by other eligible family members who use Club facilities, by acquiring membership for only one family member”
